No, I don't think the Diocese of Blackburn have gone creationist - just a bit, some might say (others might not), soft and out of touch with modern reality.

I'd have thought the dominionist element would think fracking perfectly in order. As for the Rapture brigade, I expect they'd advocate using nukes to get the gas out while there's still time.

You can download the paper on the Blackburn Diocese website and another one on fracking.

They do not mention whether or not fracking would be OK in Balcombe :)

On a more serious note, as with many environmental issues this one is not black and white and there are inevitably drawbacks as well as considerable advantages (my opinion not necessarily a hard fact).

Church of England in 'fracking land-grab'
The Church of England has begun legal action to claim ancient mineral rights beneath thousands of homes and farms, prompting fears the church could seek to cash in on fracking.

The issue of fracking in the UK is something of a perfect storm of green-environmental lobby hysteria and the popular media's inability to engage with science and technology.

Here are the two articles. They do not have approval from the diocese or the bishops.
