Birds evolved rapidly

Postby Brian Jordan » Thu Nov 01, 2012 8:07 pm

So maybe the creationists are right, they're all derived from the Dove "kind" from the Ark over 2,500 years or so? 'Fraid not, Marc and co:
In recent times, evolutionarily speaking, birds have been adapting and forming new species at a brisk pace of a new species perhaps every 700 years.
Brisk indeed, but that allows only 3 or 4 species out of nearly 6000. A nice number, if they'd been forming species at one a year since the Universe started 6000 years ago.

PS: Shock! Horror! The authors may even have evidence of evolution in action.

I want to know how many beetle kinds were on the Ark. Them must have been sprouting new species every other generation to get to our current number of species. Super speedy evolution. Now that should be easily observable - in fact it should be bleeding obvious.

Just the one "kind" or species - dung beetles. They would have thrived on all the poo and the original pair would have bred and inbred like the proverbial deep south religious fundamentalist; millions would have got off the Ark, allowing for rapid speciation.
