Rosetta story

Postby Brian Jordan » Sun Nov 09, 2014 6:16 pm

A nice little article about the Rosetta comet mission. Its findings could be very upsetting for the YECs.

Rosetta story: new update

Postby a_haworthroberts » Wed Dec 10, 2014 7:34 pm

Just seen:

Looks like part of Genesis chapter 1 must be correct after all if the conclusions reached based on the Rosetta results are correct. Unless Earth's water was transported here by asteroids in instead.

(This is the thread I was trying to find:

Which is now thought likely to be the case. Sorry, Noah and Ken.

The comment box seems to be missing here - I was going to say that I don't think scientists believe that Comet 76P has been orbiting our Sun ever since the Sun existed (even if YECs at the ICR insist that "it must have done"). However in fact I see that Joel Duff actually makes much they same point, the point that we can calculate via Newtonian physics that the comet used to come much less close to the Sun than recently and would not have lost mass - and he supplies a NASA link as well:
http://thenaturalhistorian.com/2014/12/ ... niverse-2/
(The blog is about ICR claims rather than yesterday's news story.)

Meanwhile here's a fundamentalist 'take' on yesterday's breaking news (NB by someone who used to work for NASA):
http://crev.info/2014/12/comet-ocean-theory-debunked/
"Some are looking to asteroids—dry as they are—as a source." Funnily enough the ex NASA scientist and YEC fails to mention asteroid 24-Themis (which I just googled)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24_Themis
"On October 7, 2009, the presence of water ice was confirmed on the surface of this asteroid using NASA’s Infrared Telescope Facility."
The crev text in green shows who REALLY has no shame.
