Top Ten Evolution Stories of 2010

Postby ukantic » Mon Dec 20, 2010 1:59 pm

Those crafty creationists just won't let up. Since they can't get their way in the courts or state legislatures, their new tactic is to attack the curriculum itself, from science standards to textbooks, forcing teachers to teach science the creationist way.

In Texas, for example, a creo-dominated board of education in 2009 successfully shoehorned creationist language into the life and earth sciences standards. "Having students 'analyze and evaluate all sides of scientific evidence' is code that gives creationists a green light to attack biology textbooks," said Josh Rosenau, NCSE Programs and Policy Director.

From a US perspective Alan.

Not sure what the top ten would be in the UK but two of them would have to be the nonsense at the Ulster Museum and the formation of the C4ID

I''ve made a rough and ready list; somewhere in my overful in-tray is a report on 2010.

Here's a stab at others on the top ten list for the UK:

1. Launch of the World Around Us web site by Genesis Agendum.

2. Distribution by Truth in Science of Explore Evolution to school libraries (started in 2009).

3. Michael Behe's tour of Britain.

4. The creationist strategy to get creationist teenagers to disrupt science lessons.

5. Robert West's attempt to get elected as a BNP politician.

6. Genesis Agendum's sudden source of wealth.

7. Peter Vardy suing for libel for Tribune suggesting he's a creationist.

8. Launch of Big Ken Scam's Ark Encounter kiddies theme park.

Positive developments:

1. CSM's Genesis Expo closing for lack of visitors (to be confirmed).

2. John "Necrophilia" Mackay catching rabies or some such and being unable to visit the UK. (Bit of luke and he'll remain in quarantene (Spelling) for a few more years)

3. Big increase in our activities at BCSE (more to come)

4. Celebration of five years after the Dover trial.

5. New that belief in cretinism is on the decline in the USA.

6. Robert West losing his deposit.

7. Geoff Barnard retiring to Israel.

8. No more speakers from Answers in Genesis UK.

9. Big Ken Scam making a fool of himself on Facebook (ad rectum, ad infinitum)

10. Rapid growth of Skeptics in the Pub movement.

I could blather on a bit. Any ideas of more to add to the two lists?

Probably next year!

We're working on a couple of reports on it - could take some time. The devil is in the detail.

Why is it sponsoring a creationist web site? What are its connections with the Carmel organisation located opposite its front gate? Why are the likes of Answers in Genesis smearing the "compromisers" ("recolonisers") behind it?

There was something about Dawkins reporting on a Muslim school where they were teaching creationism in RE as a scientific fact.
