I wonder how the YEC's will react to this forthcoming film ? :

Since they seem to view God as austere and judgemental I would imagine they might very well consider it to be blasphmous. I look forward with interest to the AiG review

Blasphemous -- why, Peter? Because the very idea is outrageous in
light of modern biology with our knowledge of millions of species?

I was thinking that since the film is a comedy and that it kind of pokes fun at the whole Noah's ark/global flood idea the YEC's may very well find it offensive. I saw the trailer at the local Curry's electrical store this evening and it did seem quite funny.

I'm old enough to remember the Free P's protesting in the late sixties/early seventies when Jesus Christ superstar was on tour and we've recently had an outcry over Gerry Springer the opera in the UK. I doubt if they'll take too kindly Evan almighty.

Peter, you may be right, although the Fundies may be relieved by
comparison (with the Life of Brian) that there are no gratuitous
Judean Suicide Squad + crucifixion scenes in this one. I suppose a
biblical literalists could argue that the universal deluge was
plausible in Noah's day but not now; however, they would have to
posit a sharp discontinuity between pre-diluvial Catastrophism and
post-diluvial uniformitarian geology to do so.

Blasphemous in the sense of "wrong" in light of the evidence?

Or insulting to a particular God?

What about all the other Gods who claim to be the one true god - to avoid being blasphemous to them shouldn't we avoid claiming any god is the one true god.

Lets start an equal opportunities "one true god" movement.

No wait hang on - there must be something wrong there - where does my argument fall down?

:D

Here's AiG's review of the film. I think it hits the cinimas here in July:

They couldn't resist, again, the opportunity to monopolise the term
"Christian" for their own ideological purposes.
