Who is 'Freedom from Atheistic Scientism'?

Creationist bloggers can be infuriating. If one has infuriated you by persisting in nonsense even when corrected, or refusing to reply to your criiticsm, you may feel driven to recording the fact. If so, you may register your disapproval here and hope a response is forthcoming.

Kirk Hastings is 'Freedom from Atheistic Scientism'

Wide circulation email as sent (including to online YECs):

"Further to my email of 25 October about Freedom from Atheistic Scientism entitled 'An ignorant and insecure YEC internet propagandist who hates correction' (which I will forward separately to new recipients as my email is playing up because it struggles when I attach photographs).

Mr Hastings also recently BANNED me from his 'Freedom from Atheistic Scientism' Facebook page. Thus I can only really contact him via email, at Evidence4Faith (no email address is provided at FFAS).

I have just read THIS:
http://oenobareus.blogspot.co.uk/2013/0 ... tness.html

It refers back to this:
https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php? ... ment_reply
Where FFAS quoted Richard A Kerr, a longstanding writer at Science magazine, as writing within his 1994 article 'The solar system's new diversity':
"But if those searching for extraterrestrial life ever accepted the evidence for a Creator, the evolutionary basis for their search would disappear."

I have purchased one-day access to the full original Richard A Kerr article in Science (the attached photos - presented as evidence - reproduce parts of pages 2 and 3 as only page 1 is available as free access).

THE WORDS ATTRIBUTED TO MR KERR BY MR HASTINGS/FFAS DO NOT APPEAR ANYWHERE IN THE ARTICLE.

YET WHEN CHALLENGED BY VANN PRIEST IN AUGUST, FFAS ASSURED HIM REGARDING THE QUOTE "IT IS THERE" - BEFORE APPARENTLY BANNING HIM FROM HIS SITE (HIS QUESTIONING COMMENTS ARE NO LONGER VISIBLE CERTAINLY).

IF Mr Kerr EVER wrote what is claimed it was NOT in the article cited by Hastings/FFAS (which is besides about other planets in our solar system not searches for intelligent extra-terrestrial life).

I should point out that I have checked out all of Mr Priest's blog claims - I'm assuming that is his real name - and found them to be accurate.

I gather that Mr Hastings is also involved here:
https://www.facebook.com/TheQuestionIrr ... phyProject
"To call into question the tactics, actions, and beliefs of internet atheist hate groups like Irreligiosophy, and Question Creationism."

He's also written a book entitled 'What is truth?' - which I'm not planning on reading:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews ... ewpoints=1

I think I already know about truth and about untruths.

A H-R"

I actually wrote a little dissertation on Kirk for the folks at Irreligiosophy. Now I'm an official Hastingsologist!

It's tempting to comment but I shall resist - other than mentioning that in his 2009 book Hastings appears to have claimed that the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics makes evolution an impossibility.

Hastings pontificates on his Facebook page:
"Let's get this straight: true science is about evidence -- not personal opinions. Having opinions is fine; just don't call them "science" and insist that they HAVE to be accepted by everyone else as unassailable "truth". True science is objective; personal opinions are usually not. -- KH"
"It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in an argument.
-- William G. McAdoo (1863-1941)".

Indeed. It's almost a job for the MikAdo.

"This is really interesting -- lately I've gotten some messages from a page called "Question Kirk Hastings" ( ! ) that show how really screwed up in the head some atheists are about what Christianity and Christian salvation is all about. And how desperate they are to "discredit" me that they've created at least one whole page just to criticize me!

Wow! That means I must now be in the upper tier of other big shot book writers like Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly, who have lots of Facebook and internet pages criticizing THEM too! To think that some people are so bothered by me that they've created whole pages about me just to talk about me all the time blows my mind! Thanks guys! I take that as a compliment -- it means that what I say is really having an impact, and is really bothering some people, and is causing "controversy" among the masses. Cool!

But I really have to straighten these people out as to what Christian salvation is all about, because they have it seriously screwed up (like they do most other things). They're accusing me of all sorts of rotten things (lying, being hateful, not obeying the Bible and/or Jesus, etc.) and suggesting that if I don't quit that stuff I'll "lose my salvation". Uh, guys, that shows a serious misunderstanding of what Christian salvation is. First of all, according to the New Testament it's not based on works (good OR bad). Secondly, it's not based on how perfect you are, or how much you tow the line by obeying every single moral rule all the time without exception, or ANY of that kind of stuff. It's based on the fact that Jesus Himself PAID the price for our sins 2000 years ago on the cross (long before any of us today were even born!), so that God doesn't need to condemn us any more for them. And all we have to do to be saved is to acknowledge that He did that, and truly believe it. That's it. And once you're truly saved, you can't "lose" your salvation. It's permanent. Now, if you don't make a serious effort to clean up your life morally after you acknowledge Jesus then yes, you may receive less rewards in Heaven then you would otherwise -- but your salvation itself is not based on how "good" or morally "perfect" you are. God knows that we are ALL sinners to some extent or another -- even Christians! That fact does not bother Him, or surprise Him. He took care of all that at the Cross. He tells us in the Bible what He WANTS us to do, but if we don't do it all perfectly all the time He doesn't then yank our salvation away from us. Sure, He may be disappointed in us at times. Even grieved. But He KNOWS we aren't morally perfect, and never WILL be in this life. So atheists believing that if you are a Christian and you don't constantly live up to all the moral rules in the Bible that that somehow "invalidates" the rules or makes us "bad" Christians simply isn't true. It only demonstrates that we are human, just like everyone else. Only God and Christ are perfect. We aren't. We shouldn't pretend to be either. "Christians aren't perfect -- just forgiven."

This from a person who called me names and then banned me from his Facebook page - for the 'crime' of correcting factual inaccuracies on his part about scientific topics (thus risking making him look stupid to his silly supporters).

Heaven will be occupied in part by large numbers of forgiven but still arrogant idiots it would seem.

(Incidentally not all evangelical Christians are in agreement on 'once saved always saved'.)

Just googled and found this. The headline at the top is very apt.

Kirk Hastings on his soapbox with another anti-science crusade:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Freedom- ... 7305239016
Which would not be necessary if God was not 'supernatural' and if the available natural evidence really pointed to Genesis chapters 1-11 as being 'real history'.

Young earth creationist ideologues - like fundamentalists EVERYWHERE - are people whose strident writings lack authenticity or credibility (except with similarly minded people or people who have been brainwashed when young).

Here's an example:
"Check out my new "Closed" FFAS Facebook page, just started:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/240374679486843/
This page is for people who are sincerely interested in exploring the evidence (both historical and scientific) that supports the narratives of the Bible -- not strident atheists and secularists who would rather argue and insult than discuss and debate. Eventually I hope to close down this "Open" page, and concentrate exclusively on the "Closed" FFAS page. I encourage everyone who is truly interested in THIS page, and what it is trying to do, to apply for membership in the "new" FFAS page. Let's start a discussion community there where NO personal insults and/or arrogant put-downs from people with attitude problems are allowed!"

Though they may have persuaded themselves otherwise, they are not trying to educate. They are fighting an imaginary war.
