Ray Comfort's New Schmuckumentary

Creationist bloggers can be infuriating. If one has infuriated you by persisting in nonsense even when corrected, or refusing to reply to your criiticsm, you may feel driven to recording the fact. If so, you may register your disapproval here and hope a response is forthcoming.

Ugh. I started watching a leaked version of it and couldn't finish it. This film is terrible.

The film may be a joke but Ray Comfort is as crafty as a barrow load of monkeys. It appears that he and his family are making well above US$500,000 a year out of his ministry and the figure may well be approaching US$2 million a year. He actually knows what he is doing. Like Ken Scam. It appears that most of Scam's immediate family are on the AiG payroll. The money is in pushing woo in the USA, not the Antipodes (Comfort is from New Zealand). Scam, of course, ditched his Australian colleagues when they were in the way of his and his family's ambitions.

Yes, a separate thread was needed on this.

I have made several relevant recent comments at the 'rabble rouser Ken Ham' thread. (Of course I haven't been able to watch the whole film as yet.)

Yucky thought: could either or both of them be aiming to be a latter-day L. Ron Hubbard? After all, they may not have invented their own religion but they've certainly invented a new version of an old one.

'Can evolutionists answer tough questions about their beliefs?'

Normally yes.

But do creationists want to seriously consider them?

However, this article is at times rather cynical about Mr Comfort's methods, which is somewhat refreshing.

How would you respond to Ray's "they're still X" statements?

Biologist P Z Myers is one of the best placed to answer that (or perhaps he did but Mr Comfort 'accidentally' edited out that bit).

At last, the day we have all been waiting for... any minute now we shall hopefully have news of a new royal babyOOPS the official unveiling of the anti-evolution documentary to end all anti-evolution documentaries 'Evolution vs God'.

I strongly suspect this to be a piece of propaganda which seeks by clever editing techniques to portray scientists who think 'macro' evolution is true as stupid, dogmatic, and believing in things that don't exist.

However, I am not prepared to PAY in order to watch the whole thing so as to find out whether I am correct.

Ham on Comfort's New Schmuckumentary

"if only Christians would become equipped with answers, and know how to defend the faith, they could really run rings around these secularists out there and not be intimidated by them";
"I want to see every teenager and public school student, university student in America watch this video".

If I was still an evangelical Christian who believed in preaching the gospel of Christ and hoping the Holy Spirit would bring faith and conviction, I would be worried by this slick operation to indoctrinate people against modern science and offer them dubious 'answers'. It all sounds like a human plan, borne of desperation, and an unavoidably bad one at that.

But then again people might be converted to mindless, dogmatic, young Earth creationism ... and militant anti-evolutionism.

Although they've claimed to have sold 2000 copies at a Hamfest, they're doing a bulk offer - $5 for one but $20 for ten. So they could have turned over $10,000 or then again it might only have been $4,000. (see the photo)

Evangelist Ray Comfort's Evolution vs. God DVD is selling out at the Answers in Genesis "Mega Conference" taking place in Tennessee this week.

Comfort was "very excited" about the premier showing of his movie, he said in a video posted on his The Way of the Master YouTube Living Waters ministry channel (embedded below).

Ken Ham, the president and CEO of Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum, explained to Comfort that the annual conference "equips people to defend the Christian faith" and "sets them on fire for the Lord." According to Ham, Evolution vs. God is a "very revealing video that shows the bankruptcy of evolution."[url]http://www.goddiscussion.com/113531/2000-copies-of-evolution-vs-god-dvd-sell-in-20-minutes-creationist-wants-all-college-and-public-school-students-in-america-to-see-it
EDIT: Internet prices suggest a cost of around $1.50 each for 10,000 not falling much for higher numbers. So they could have made between $1000 and £7,000 in the hour from Ham's bamboozled flock.

I'd ask Comfort to define what he means by "kind".

"Ray seems to have a very warped sense of how science operates, acting as if there are doctrinal texts that control both scientific information and interpretation," wrote Zimmerman. "No scientific text, in the mind of any scientist, can have the last word on any scientific topic. Even more to the point, scientific knowledge is cumulative and our understanding of every topic, including evolution, increases with each new published work".
Dr Michael Zimmerman
