This is from Truth in Science's web site today:

Monday, 16 October 2006
A seminar critical of the theory that all life has a common ancestor was held for Members of the European Parliament on Wednesday October 11th, Truth in Science has learned.

Polish MEP, Maciej Giertych, former head of the Genetics Department of the Polish Academy of Science introduced the seminar to fellow MEPs in Brussels. He claimed that universal common ancestry is a falsified hypothesis and lacks usefulness in scientific research. He questioned the value of teaching it to students throughout Europe.

Odd, isn't it, that a bunch of evangelical protestant calvinistic fundamentalists have found a fellow bedfellow from one of the most Catholic countries in Europe.

Even more odd, given that on Saturday I met a very bright and sharp Jesuit whom, um, thinks that creationists are a bunch of jerks.

The fundies will, no doubt, be telling us next that th Pope has turned up in Tinshill Independent Baptist Church in Leeds and endorsed the newsletter of Take Heed Ministries in Northern Ireland - especially the March 2004 edition.

Funny isn't it that Take Heed Ministries is totally anti-Catholic but appears to be in totally in bed with Truth in Science - including the fact they endorsed Truth in Science to us last month.

Where do these jerks from truth in Science get their reality from? Methinks it is time to raise this nonsense on our web site.

I was going to say that it is time to start taking the piss out of the Truth in Science's web site but as responsible, respectible, people we should be behaving more responsibly (or not).

PS: Dig around on Internet and there is a lot of very recent stuff on fundamentalism in Poland. IIRC Panda's Thumb might be a good start.

here's a link that goes along with that...from a Polish source. http://www.polskieradio.pl/polonia/article.asp?tId=43301&j=2
also, anyone who has access to nature might like to check out this article about scientists there fighting back http://www.nature.com/news/2006/061023/full/443890c.html
And Panda's Thumb has a post up about the Polish deputy education minister discussing how Neanderthals are among us...using a photo of an American Boxer as proof.

They seem to be getting very socially conservative there in Poland...not just on this issue of evolution.
The 'League of Polish Families' (what is it with putting family in a name to make it evil) is trying to ban abortions even in the case of rape/incest. http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/oct/06102505.html

However, just as many fundamentalists, it seems that they are hypocritical as well. Their policies on gay rights have been horrendous. But this now seems a bit Foleyesque http://www.towleroad.com/2006/10/homophobic_poli.html
