'Religion and Worldviews'?

Postby a_haworthroberts » Wed Sep 12, 2018 11:00 pm

Something in the UK has seemingly annoyed Ken Ham.

This is the story: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-45451489 'Teach religion and worldviews instead of RE.'
Concerning the report by the Commission for Religious Education entitled 'Religion and Worldviews, the Way Forward: a National Plan for RE' - of which an Executive Summary can be viewed here:
https://www.commissiononre.org.uk/wp-co ... -on-RE.pdf

The main proposal is to replace Religious Education with a new subject Religion and Worldviews.

But: https://www.facebook.com/aigkenham/
"Ultimately, there's only two religions—God's Word vs. man's word. And as education becomes secularized, the absolutes of Christianity will not be tolerated by secularists who want moral relativism. Intolerance and persecution of Christians will increase."

Ham's kneejerk reaction - which links to the BBC article but fails to address its contents in any detail at all - is somewhat ironic given how he talks all the time about 'worldviews'. He seems to think this proposed change is (more) 'intolerance' and 'persecution'.

Ham wants indoctrination (the right indoctrination of course) not education.

Incidentally both the National Secular Society and Humanists UK appear largely content with the proposal:
https://www.secularism.org.uk/news/2018 ... commission
https://humanism.org.uk/2018/09/09/huma ... orldviews/

Some Christians and members of other religious faiths have expressed some reservations. But I haven't seen any comments by them mentioning 'intolerance' and 'persecution'.

(I realise that this probably does not directly relate to science education.)
