Misinformation and disinformation from YEC apologists

Postby a_haworthroberts » Thu Apr 12, 2018 8:23 pm

Here's another example. (Please keep reading.)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b ... d-and-dead ('The Sky at Night', discussing Mars.)
Early on in this Professor Sanjeev Gupta describes stratified sedimentary rock layers on Mount Sharp on Mars - probably resulting from depositional episodes in a past long-lived lake on the planet ie the lake probably persisted for millions of years.

I also found this:
https://www.universetoday.com/137230/st ... nets-past/
According to scientist Benjamin Cardenas: "The study shows there was a large body of water on Mars ~3.5 billion years ago, and that this body of water increased and decreased in volume slowly enough that river sedimentation had time to adjust styles" and "This is more in line with slower climatic changes, and less in line with catastrophic hydrologic events...".

And there's this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_ocean_hypothesis (it says 'ocean' rather than 'lake' but the difference appears moot)
"The Mars ocean hypothesis states that nearly a third of the surface of Mars was covered by an ocean of liquid water early in the planet’s geologic history ...".

Meanwhile there's plenty of misinformation and disinformation (NB recent not 'out-of-date') from YECs. An ancient and very long-lasting lake/ocean on Mars has transformed itself into a 'global flood'. For instance:
https://crev.info/2017/06/mars-global-flood/ 'Secularists Can Believe Mars Had a Global Flood.' No they don't. (Even though real scientists may refer to a 'Noachian epoch*' on Mars, an epoch is long-lasting whereas a 'flood' is short-lived. An 'ocean' is not a 'flood'.)
or:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYRW5eL3SHs 'Global flood on Mars - but not on Earth?' (It's amazing how much misdirection you can cram into a 60 second propaganda video - including the blatant implied falsehood that sedimentary rock is always 'water deposited'.)

Bottom line to this YEC propaganda? Scientists must be inconsistent and stupid and they are simply in denial of the truths of the Bible, notably in Genesis. Yet the YECs MISREPRESENT scientists - and are highly selective with evidence (there's little excuse for that when we are talking about evidence on Earth at least).

Perhaps the biggest problem for these YEC cultists (who claim to be 'biblical' or at least more 'biblical' than anybody else) is that there is ZERO biblical support for a 'global flood' on Mars. Or indeed for Mars at all. (But there is evidence eg at Mount Sharp for a past large lake or ocean over large parts of Mars.) So perhaps those millions of years really happened? On Mars anyway (even if the 'global flood' on Earth 'washes away' millions of years).

If this was a 'global flood' then there's a 'global flood' on Earth right now (well on two-thirds of the planet's surface anyway).

But Ashley, both you and the YECs fail to understand. All is now clear: the Fludde was on Mars and the Ark was a spaceship. Simple.
