Report on ACE curriculum on Newsnight 16 June

Postby a_haworthroberts » Mon Jun 16, 2014 10:22 pm

Very interesting indeed (starts around 25 minutes in). Maranatha School then discussion with creationist (but non scientist) John Lewis and Prof Alice Roberts - and Jeremy Paxman.

(See also the recent Braterman and Scaramanga blog posts. Edit - and the BCSE blog.)

Just seen a further two Scaramanga posts dated 16 June. Notably this one.

Monday's Newsnight is now on iplayer (for a week I think):

(I started a new thread because there were new posts dated 16 June in the 'Upcoming TV' thread but not about Newsnight.)

Struggling to find any mention of John Lewis on the Christian Education Europe website and it seems that for whatever reason no more influential member of CEE appeared on the programme:

(Brenda Lewis appears to be married to a Dr Philip Lewis:

http://www.kingofkingsschool.org/index. ... &Itemid=79)
(And based on the photo this is not the same John Lewis:

And the ACE Ministries website does not even have a search function.

On this new blog post, I took Paxman to be playing 'devil's advocate' in his opening question to Alice Roberts.

Jonny Scaramanga raised the issue of fundamentalism being highly political. He stated that he was taught that publicly funded healthcare was "wrong". Seems that the fundamentalists are importing the extremes of US right-wing ideology - the public sector is evil. What else, politically, are they "taught"?

It's not a minor point; as far as I am aware, most if not all of these independent fundamentalist schools have charitable status which means thet cannot promote political ideologies or opinions.

On Newsnight Lewis said he had studied philosophy, politics and economics at York - which may indicate which parts of the ACE curriculum he provides input for.

Its not politics its Bilically manadated 'truth'! Though I have to admit I don't recall which bit of Livitcus lists publically-funded services as an abomination...

Apparently Arthur Roderick is afraid to debate Jonny Scaramanga on Premier Radio:
