I doubt I can get to Paul Garner's 'ice age' talk at the church at 46 Cambridge Street, in Rugby on Tuesday 10 March. Presumably this will be the kind of not so hot air he will still be coming out with:http://www.biblicalcreationministries.o ... 0-2007.mp3
Apart from mentioning Genesis 7:11 (but later on adding to what it actually states and pretending that all Earth's volcanoes were erupting during Noah's Flood and also that 'catastrophic plate tectonics' greatly heated the oceans) the talk is completely UNBIBLICAL ie it adds MUCH nonsense to what Genesis actually says whilst blatantly ignoring some things that Genesis does say (it totally ignores Genesis 8:22 even though these are meant to be words spoken by GOD himself).
Never mind that he is completely wrong scientifically and historically as well.
The trigger for ice age glaciations is combinations of around three LONG TERM astronomical (Milankovitch) cycles, lasting tens or hundreds of thousands of years, involving variations concerning Earth's orbit around the Sun. But NONE of these were significantly different just 4,000 or so years ago. A pity if you are a YEC. And the much greater ocean warmth in the past indicated by forams occurred MILLIONS of years ago, not 'just before' an ice age glaciation.
He totally IGNORES Milankovitch cycles, he attempts to SHRUG OFF the ice core evidence (available back when this talk was given I believe) by claiming that because lower ice layers become compressed you cannot visually distinguish annual layers so have to make (prior) assumptions-based 'calculations' (which Garner thinks must be 'incorrect') about how thin or thick ancient layers 'must' be, and he also completely IGNORES the large distances over which glacial erratics were transported by the glaciers and instead claims that sediment was only transported over limited distances (he is not precise about the distances in question). He claims that conventional scientific models - which he does NOT assess but instead IGNORES - 'cannot' explain 'how' any ice age glaciation began.
Would Garner - or ANY YEC ideologue - care to try and refute this? Please?
